Buying the Ladd Carriage House

The Carriage House and its surrounding
courtyard will occupy the same 1/4 block where it has stood for over 125
years. The ornate Victorian styling of the Carriage House will be
a marked contrast to the historic revival architecture of the First
Christian Church and the modern design of the Ladd Tower. Note,
however, the scale and massing of the base of the tower fits in
appropriately with that of the church and the Carriage House. The
courtyard around the Carriage House will be available for special Church
events. |
 |
In this view of the plot plan of the
entire block, the grey-blue areas are retail space, the peach colored
area is office and program space for the First Christian Church, and the
grey section is service and lobby space for the apartment tower above.
The Ladd Carriage House will sit on the new concrete slab above the
parking garage instead of its original stone foundation wall. Further, it will have been
moved back from the street approximately 5 feet relative to its original
position. This additional spacing from the street allows
for required ramps for ADA access while allowing the LCH to retain its
original height above grade. Coincidentally, it positions
the Carriage House relative to the street much as it was in historic
times before Columbia and Broadway were widened to handle more vehicle
traffic. |
